DESCRIPTION:SYNA International School\, KATNI \nDr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Inter House  ENGLISH DEBATE \nSaturday\, AUGUST 4\, 2018 \nSenior Group- (IX\, X\, XI & XII) \nIN THE OPINION OF THE HOUSE:  \nGross Domestic Happiness (GDH) is more important in judging the well-being of a country than Gross Domestic Product (GDP). \nJunior Group- Classes-VI\, VII & VIII \nIN THE OPINION OF THE HOUSE :  \nExams only measure the memory of the students not their learning. \nRules: \n\nTwo speakers will be allowed to participate. One speaker will be speaking for the motion and another against. Each House is requested to send only one team.\nEach speaker from the junior group will be given 3 minutes to speak and 1 minute for the rebuttal. First bell will be sounded at the completion of three minutes followed by a bell after every thirty seconds till the completion of stipulated time.\nEach speaker from the senior group will be given 4 minutes to speak and 1 minute for the rebuttal. First bell will be sounded at the completion of four minutes followed by a bell after every thirty seconds till the completion of stipulated time.\nThe first speaker will get one minute extra for rebuttal after all the speakers have presented their arguments.\nThe order of the speakers will be decided on the basis of draw of lots. The lots will be taken out in presence of House Masters or their representatives.\nSpeech should be delivered spontaneously; reading out from paper may affect the score adversely\, however\, the participants are allowed to keep palm cards for the reference.\nUsage of vocabulary or quotes from other languages\, un-parliamentary words or the words hurting the feelings of someone will be negatively marked.\nThe speakers will be judged on the basis of their appropriateness and effectiveness of the style of delivery. Elements of style include\, but not limited to\, ability to persuade\, voice modulation\, quality of language used\, humour\, wit\, body language\, content\, rebuttal\, etc.\nThe marking will be done on the following criterion-\nContent –  10\nRelevance-  10\nFluency – 10\nConfidence- 10\nRebuttal –  10\n\n  \n\nThe decision of Chairman/moderator of the debate will be final and binding.\nThe debaters will appear in school uniform with tie.\nHouse Masters will have to send the names of the participants latest by 31st of July\, 2018 to Competition Department and the Undersigned. The names of the participants once received will not be changed hence they must be finalized very carefully.
